O sacred Time! forever lost
On rapid wings
Of wasted days and careless years.
All tender things,
Thy proffered joys and truths have crossed
The stream of youthful arts, while tears
Now drip upon the cheeks of age
By Fate assigned.
With waves of woes and crests of rage,
Despair's ensigns
Are sicklied o'er by memories bright,
Then dashed, confined
By Hopelessness to night.
