TO ONE WHO ASKED FOR A SONG, by LOIS A. ROBSON First Line: Dear you, no song of mine could ever say Last Line: I bring myself and not my song to you. Subject(s): Singing & Singers | ||||||||
Dear You, no song of mine could ever say What you have been and what you are to me, And yet I try to write the melody That in my heart has never ceased to play Since first you came. I know -- and yet I stay Entwining words and rhythms lengthily -- That words are futile things for such as we Who long have known our love another way. The inarticulate can half convey The music of a heartsong wildly free Better than all the futile words there be Set in a fixed and rhythmical array. That you may know a melody more true, I bring myself and not my song to you. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY PROMISE by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON |
