JOSEPHINE'S HAT, by RAY CLARKE ROSE First Line: What a gay array of hats! Last Line: Such a flower! Subject(s): Courts & Courtiers; Desire; Hats; Women | |||
What a gay array of hats! Some are mysteries, but that's Josephine's! I'm certain, by the crown Not a smarter one in town It 's a queen's! Yet it only gives a trace Of the grace and charm of face Which it shades, For our Josephine is sweet As the rarest bloom you 'll meet, Ere it fades. Underneath the hat she knows She 's as winsome as a rose In a bower Where the sun and shade coquet Oh! how I would love to get Such a flower! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ARISTOTLE TO PHYLLIS by JOHN HOLLANDER A WOMAN'S DELUSION by SUSAN HOWE JULIA TUTWILER STATE PRISON FOR WOMEN by ANDREW HUDGINS THE WOMEN ON CYTHAERON by ROBINSON JEFFERS TOMORROW by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD LADIES FOR DINNER, SAIPAN by KENNETH KOCH GOODBYE TO TOLERANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV A BACHELOR'S VALENTINE by RAY CLARKE ROSE |
