FAREWELL SONG, by MARGARET SACKVILLE Poet's Biography First Line: Oh! The brown and ruddy apples and the gold on every tree Last Line: "I'll laugh with my new lover and not think of you at all!" Subject(s): Farewell; Parting | ||||||||
OH! the brown and ruddy apples and the gold on every tree And the road that has no ending, the long road for me! Love was brown and ruddy and gold and crowned with light, But he fears the dusty highway and the stark wind of night. Yet when I'm on the highway gone, I fear you'll call me back, That you'll set your thoughts to follow and your heart upon my track: "Oh, no! you need not fear me, for when the last leaves fall, I'll laugh with my new lover and not think of you at all!" | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN STUDY #2 FOR B.B.L. by JUNE JORDAN WATCHING THE NEEDLEBOATS AT SAN SABBA by JAMES JOYCE SESTINA: TRAVEL NOTES by WELDON KEES |
