QUIET, by SALLIE ROSS SANDERS First Line: Tan leaves and brown leaves Last Line: It is evening. Subject(s): Evening; Sunset; Twilight | ||||||||
Tan leaves and brown leaves, Silently whirling, Now fall on black-shadowed water, Floating gently; A gray bird with hushed song Skims over the surface Of the dark pool. One, two, three sunbeams Peep elfinly through the leaves; They are gone, Leaving only gray shadows Creeping stealthily over the water. The pool, the bird, the trees Are gray shadows; Peace, calm, quiet reign -- It is evening. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE GOD'S YOUTH by LOUIS UNTERMEYER |
