A HEART SONG, by ELIZABETH RIAL SARGENT First Line: On my ear there fell a cry of hate! Last Line: A mother's heart was singing to its child. Subject(s): Mothers; Singing & Singers | ||||||||
On my ear there fell a cry of hate! And it filled my soul with gloom, For torture seemed to be part of it -- and despair. But ere the gloom possessed me wholly -- quite, I heard a Mother singing to her child. All the gates of Heaven seemed to open wide As the song burst forth upon the air; It breathed of love, of love Divine! A Mother's heart was singing to its Child. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY |
