HOME-LONGINGS: GWEEDORE, COUNTY DONEGAL, by GEORGE FRANCIS SAVAGE-ARMSTRONG Poet's Biography First Line: I, wandering hither listless from afar Last Line: And take farewell of all without a sigh. Subject(s): Homesickness | ||||||||
I, WANDERING hither listless from afar, Have drunk within this Vale a two days' bliss. Dear were the noises of the tempest's war On the rough beach, and dear the torrent's brawl Thundering on high, and dear the sunset's kiss Flushing the peak of pallid Errigal. Yet, since to lonely men full many a time God seems far off where human love is small, And other vales, through Memory sublime, Await me, and the Sacred Ashes lie By gentler seas beside a tamer shore -- I leave the wild Atlantic's jubilant roar, The scarped cliffs that scowl against the sky, The lough, and barren dales, and mountain hoar, And take farewell of all without a sigh. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PLAINT OF THE DISGUSTED BRITON IN THE STATES by GEORGE SANTAYANA OUTSIDE FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA by JAMES WRIGHT HOME-THOUGHTS, FROM ABROAD by ROBERT BROWNING MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME by STEPHEN COLLINS FOSTER HOMESICK BLUES by JAMES LANGSTON HUGHES SEVEN TIMES SEVEN [- LONGING FOR HOME] by JEAN INGELOW SONNET: TO L.T.
