CONTRASTS, by EVALYN SCHAFFLE First Line: How is it that we two are bound so close Last Line: Chill rush of rain to quench my passion's fire! | |||
How is it that we two are bound so close Whose deepest longings are so far apart? I wonder, with my head upon your heart And you beside me lying in repose. You crave the shelter of a quiet home With roof that hides the sky, to keep you warm. I am a being that exults in storm, Stubborn and fretful unless free to roam, Eager to search the first spring blossoms out, Treading, unshod, the mossy woodland floor While you await me, smiling, at the door. When autumn's strong wild voices call without You long for restful calm, while I desire Chill rush of rain to quench my passion's fire! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THOMAS WOLFE by EVALYN SCHAFFLE MUJER by WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS THE TIDE OF FAITH by MARY ANN EVANS THE ICE by WILFRID WILSON GIBSON WEARINESS by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW WHAT IS LONDON'S LAST NEW LION? by THOMAS HAYNES BAYLY A TRANSCRIPTION by EDMUND CHARLES BLUNDEN WOOING IN A DREAM by NICHOLAS BRETON SIMPKIN by ROBERT SEYMOUR BRIDGES |
