NOCTURNE, by WILLIAM GREENOUGH SCHOFIELD Poet's Biography First Line: So hand in hand again, through scented dark Last Line: We now keep walking all the deadly while. Subject(s): Moon; Walking | ||||||||
So hand in hand again, through scented dark And timeless thoroughfare, beneath cascades Of balconies and vines, and you remark: "How nice -- the thin uncertainty of shades -- You know, the moon seems blue; the yellow shine Of lamplight over doorstep -- something nice About it." Yes -- your steps again with mine, The moon again our private butter slice; But much is out of keeping, much is wrong: In place of sand beneath our feet, is stone, That other background of compelling song Becomes a praline vendor's minor tone, And where we paused -- a moment, then a smile -- We now keep walking all the deadly while. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SPRING DAY: WALK by AMY LOWELL WALKING-STICKS AND PAPERWEIGHTS AND WATERMARKS by MARIANNE MOORE I GUIDED THE LONG TRANSHUMANCE OF THE HERD by AIME CESAIRE THE TREES OF MADAME BLAVATSKY by NORMAN DUBIE THREE MEN WALKING, THREE BROWN SILHOUETTES by ALICIA SUSKIN OSTRIKER REVIEW by WILLIAM GREENOUGH SCHOFIELD DOWN BY THE CARIB SEA: 5.
