I WAS AN HUNGERED, by M. LANNING SHANE First Line: Jesus (I lately dreamed), again on earth Last Line: Some ancient words of his drooped in my mind. Subject(s): Jesus Christ | ||||||||
Jesus (I lately dreamed), again on earth, Smiled at the colored lights, the red and green Of holly, mistletoe, ribbons; smiled at the sheen Of tinsel and cellophane -- even the anthemed mirth Blaring from loud-speakers; silently watched the stacks Of bundles wrapped by weary clerks, transferred To the bent backs of postmen; found no word For the day when, shopping ended, we relax.... He was not watching us. In the alley, out behind Our house, he had seen two children wrapped in rags, Shivering, grimy, faces and hands frost-pinched, Fumbling about the garbage. Jesus flinched, Ran toward the children, vanished ... Like tattered flags Some ancient words of His drooped in my mind. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE GREEN CHRIST by ANDREW HUDGINS MEDITATION ON SAVIORS by ROBINSON JEFFERS COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK TO A WREN ON CALVARY by LARRY LEVIS THE TRANSFIGURATION by EDWIN MUIR SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 1.
