WAR SEQUENCE: BOMBING PLANE, by RENA CAREY SHEFFIELD First Line: Dread warrior of the cirrelucent air Last Line: Makes him quick prey of the cold spider death. Subject(s): Air Warfare | ||||||||
Dread warrior of the cirrelucent air, With wings outspread to cleave resistless space, Holding destruction in a close embrace, You speed to the attack with talons bare. Alone you fight -- no military square Of bayonet defense, but face to face You meet steel vultures of the wind's high place Within the fastness of your aery lair, Blot out the golden promise of the sun That man shall see his world and find it good, But man, defiant in his hardihood, With his untiring brain and tenuous breath, Spins a dark web of war, that once begun Makes him quick prey of the cold spider Death. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...NAVY FIELD by WILLIAM MEREDITH LONELY EAGLES by MARILYN NELSON THE LEGLESS FIGHTER PILOT by SHARON OLDS PORT OF AERIAL EMBARKATION by JOHN CIARDI THE PILOT IN THE JUNGLE by JOHN CIARDI PILOTS, MAN YOUR PLANES by RANDALL JARRELL THE DEAD WINGMAN by RANDALL JARRELL THE FURY OF AERIAL BOMBARDMENT by RICHARD GHORMLEY EBERHART BLACK BLIZZARD by RENA CAREY SHEFFIELD |
