THE DREAM, by EDWARD SHERBURNE Poet's Biography First Line: Fair shadow, faithless as my sun Last Line: With a delusive dream. Subject(s): Love - Complaints | ||||||||
Fair shadow, faithless as my sun! Of peace she robs my mind, And to my sense, which rest doth shun, Thou art no less unkind. She my address disdainful flies, And thou, like her, art fleet; The real beauty she denies And thou the counterfeit. To cross my innocent desires And make my griefs extreme, A cruel mistress thus conspires With a delusive dream. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TALKING RICHARD WILSON BLUES, BY RICHARD CLAY WILSON by DENIS JOHNSON THE BRIDGE by ALEXANDER ANDERSON THE RABBI'S SON-IN-LAW by SABINE BARING-GOULD MISGIVINGS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS THROUGH AGONY: 1 by CLAUDE MCKAY HEMATITE HEIRLOOM LIVES ON (MAYBE DECEMBER 1980) by ALICE NOTLEY QUICK AND BITTER by YEHUDA AMICHAI THE FOUNTAIN by EDWARD SHERBURNE |
