LONGING, by JESSE SILL First Line: The day is done and over the mountainside leaping Last Line: I'll love and protect thee, darling wife. Subject(s): Longing | ||||||||
The day is done and over the mountainside leaping Comes the dusk of eventide. Into my soul come creeping Thoughts of thee, with a hundredfold of bliss; The joys of when we first met, yesterday the kiss That on thy lips I planted; still a fond memory Of thy loveliness, with the never forgotten story Of love, thy beauty; that fond endearing caress. Then from thy lips came one sweet word"Yes." Again I touched thy lips. In a fond embrace you gave Food that angels long for. I became thy slave. Thy gentle touch could not mar my soul. Thy love So good and kind hath placed me far above Dangers that await those who serve. I will Be a monarch. In thy sweet innocence there may still Be lurking dangers. This bridle path may hide Snares that are a menace to so lovely a bride. Hate and envy are on the watch to destroy. Some pleasures are immortal that mortals enjoy. Loved one, would that I a magician's wand control And from thy pathway could all dangers roll. Not so, I, a poor mortal, could not gain that end But I can and will thy noble virtues defend. Though sins may lurk and ills betide, I'll ever be watching by thy side. In thy beautious slumber have no fear, Whate'er the dangers, I'll be near, I'll ever guard thee through the ills of life. I'll love and protect thee, darling wife. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ABOARD!
