PRAYER FOR LAUGHTER, by MADELINE SLADE First Line: Dear lord, to preserve my sanity Last Line: Should be the means of releasing me! Subject(s): Peace | ||||||||
Dear Lord, to preserve my sanity Midst chaos which threatens to swallow me, Help me, no matter what ill fate brings, To look for the funny side of things! Help me, above all else, to keep My sense of humor when I would weep. Let not my fellow-men cause distress; Lord, make me to realize their funniness! Help me to find the humor in pain That throbs all day in my tired brain -- (To keep me constantly well aware Of the brain's oft-doubted presence there!) Send me a hearty laugh to calm My quivering nerves with its magic balm ... And when Death comes, with lugubrious mien, O Lord, may I chuckle with mirth serene That a dour old spook as dread as he Should be the means of releasing me! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOW MANY NIGHTS by GALWAY KINNELL THE MOTTO by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON THE TRUE BEATITUDE by RUPERT BROOKE MAKING PEACE by DENISE LEVERTOV TWO SONGS OF PEACE: 1 by YEHUDA AMICHAI TWO SONGS OF PEACE: 2 by YEHUDA AMICHAI |
