FOR POETS, by WALLACE M. SLOANE First Line: The poets have their little nook where they may live and love and rest Last Line: With nothing imprisoned but the soul between the pages of a book. Subject(s): Poetry & Poets | ||||||||
The poets have their little nook where they may live and love and rest, And they are wise and they are best between the pages of a book. There they are sought by those who love them; no others ever see or care, And faces true and faces fair bend down in faith and love above them. There they are wise and good and fair as any songs that they have sung, Forever glad, forever young, and poet lovers love them there. But woe be if they break away and travel from the printed page Into a world of persiflage where shadow actors work and play. And woe be if they break the shell surrounding them and seek to find A perfect love among mankind, and taste the fruits of heaven and hell. But happy they who know their nook and meet all men and reach life's goal, With nothing imprisoned but the soul between the pages of a book. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ENVY OF OTHER PEOPLE'S POEMS by ROBERT HASS THE NINETEENTH CENTURY AS A SONG by ROBERT HASS THE FATALIST: TIME IS FILLED by LYN HEJINIAN OXOTA: A SHORT RUSSIAN NOVEL: CHAPTER 192 by LYN HEJINIAN LET ME TELL YOU WHAT A POEM BRINGS by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA JUNE JOURNALS 6/25/88 by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA FOLLOW ROZEWICZ by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA HAVING INTENDED TO MERELY PICK ON AN OIL COMPANY, THE POEM GOES AWRY by HICOK.
