DESPONDENT, by SSU-K'UNG T'U Poet's Biography First Line: A gale goes ruffling down the stream Last Line: And through the old thatch drips the rain. Alternate Author Name(s): Piao-sheng Subject(s): Despair | ||||||||
A gale goes ruffling down the stream, The giants of the forest crack; My thoughts are bitter -- black as death -- For she, my summer, comes not back. A hundred years like water glide, Riches and rank are ashen cold, Daily the dream of peace recedes: By whom shall Sorrow be consoled? The soldier, dauntless, draws his sword, And there are tears and endless pain; The winds arise, leaves flutter down, And through the old thatch drips the rain. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE DAY THAT WAS THAT DAY by AMY LOWELL MAN IN THE STREET OR HAND OVER MOUTH by HEATHER MCHUGH BURIAL RITES by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE CAMPS; FOR MARILYN HACKER by HAYDEN CARRUTH TO THE IMMORTAL MEMORY OF THE HALIBUT ON WHICH I DINED by WILLIAM COWPER |
