LOST, by MABEL STAFFORD First Line: You never knew when I stopped loving you Last Line: With you, you never guessing you have lost. Subject(s): Life | ||||||||
You never knew when I stopped loving you: Our voices murmured on in conversation's thread; You walked beside me on the highway wide, Nor ever saw the cloud which overspread The sun when love for you within me died. But shadows on the land are shelt'ring friends: The cloud gave glad surcease to me from scorching love; I gained in freedom from the price you cost. And life still flows along its patient groove, With you, you never guessing you have lost. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PRIVILEGE OF BEING by ROBERT HASS SEAWATER STIFFENS CLOTH by JANE HIRSHFIELD SAYING YES TO LIVING by DAVID IGNATOW THE WORLD IS SO DIFFICULT TO GIVE UP by DAVID IGNATOW ON THE WAY (PHILADELPHIA, 1794) by EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON |
