THE SLEEPING BEAUTY, by JOHN BANISTER TABB Poet's Biography First Line: The sculptor in the marble found Last Line: Beneath the noonday skies. Alternate Author Name(s): Father Tabb Subject(s): Sculpture & Sculptors; Sleep | ||||||||
The sculptor in the marble found Her hidden from the world around, As in a donjon keep; With gentle hand he took away The coverlet that o'er her lay, But left her fast asleep. And still she slumbers; e'en as he Who saw in far futurity What now before us lies -- The fairest vision that the stream Of night, subsiding, leaves agleam Beneath the noonday skies. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...YOU'S SWEET TO YO' MAMMY JES DE SAME by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON CHAMBER MUSIC: 3 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 22 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 34 by JAMES JOYCE GOING TO SLEEP by ELIZABETH AKERS ALLEN THE BLUE NAP by WILLIAM MATTHEWS ANONYMOUS by JOHN BANISTER TABB |
