EARTH'S PAIN, by CATHERINE TAYLOR First Line: Vast clouds of vapor rise up through the gloom Last Line: And on her shield of truth rose earth's new day. Subject(s): Earth; World | ||||||||
Vast clouds of vapor rise up through the gloom As earth breathes forth her pain at heaven's gate, Bewailing bitter wars of blood and hate, Her gardens battlefields instead of bloom, Her gifts, her blessings, wasting rich perfume. The sun and moon grow dim; winds moan her fate; Dark waters weep and to fair worlds relate Her burning pain that tears could not consume. Then pity, born of mercy and of love, To hearts of men betook her weary way, Subdued the roaring heart and bade the dove Of peace to dwell within the house of clay. Then justice hastened from the courts above, And on her shield of truth rose earth's new day. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BROKEN BALANCE by ROBINSON JEFFERS SUBJECTED EARTH by ROBINSON JEFFERS GEOMETAPHYSICS by MARGARET AVISON NIAGARA by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS SOPHISTICATION by CONRAD AIKEN I SEE CHILE IN MY REARVIEW MIRROR by AGHA SHAHID ALI WASHING OUR HANDS OF THE REST OF AMERICA by MARVIN BELL |
