NOTHING LEFT BUT DREAMS, by MARTHA TAYLOR First Line: The dreams of youth are dreams of hope Last Line: We've nothing left but dreams. Subject(s): Dreams; Nightmares | ||||||||
The dreams of youth are dreams of hope Distilled from magic brew, While future years give time and scope To make those dreams come true, But disappointments crowd the years Youth's vision cannot span; We learn, through wrestling doubts and fears, To do the best we can. The dreams of age look ever back To conquests, lost or won; To hopes that full fruition lack, Or joys that now are done. So ageless fancy drugs the mind With visionary themes Until, at last, we wake to find We've nothing left but dreams. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN VARIATIONS: 18 by CONRAD AIKEN LIVE IT THROUGH by DAVID IGNATOW A DREAM OF GAMES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL APOLOGY FOR BAD DREAMS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GIVE YOUR WISH LIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE UNDER-DOG by MARTHA TAYLOR |
