BENEATH RED CLAY, by
First Line: The death-moth hovered over kan-neh-tee
Last Line: And god -- in her heart.
Subject(s): Funerals; Native Americans; Burials; Indians Of America; American Indians; Indians Of South America

The death-moth hovered over Kan-Neh-Tee;
"Bury me beneath red clay;"
But some would scatter her ashes to the four winds --
"Bury me beneath red clay."
And some would carry her bones to the mountains --
"Bury me beneath red clay."
And some would drop her body into mighty waters:
"Bury me beneath red clay."
So they buried my great-great-grandmother
Beneath red clay --
With Princess robes about her shoulders...
And God -- in her heart.
