COME, soft and soothing --
Angel voice of song.
Anguish and sorrow
I have suffered long.
Soft as tears or falling rain,
Lightly touch my heart in pain,
As to flowers
Evening showers
Dying hopes restore.

Sweet as by fountains
Wooing birds may sing,
Deep as the echoes
Ocean winds may bring,
Let thy measures ebb and flow --
And my soul enraptured go
Swanlike sailing,
-- Dreams prevailing --
On thy waves of sound.
