THEMOSTOCLES, by TIMOCREON Poet's Biography First Line: Pausanias you may praise Last Line: To themistocles. Alternate Author Name(s): Timokreon Of Rhodes | ||||||||
PAUSANIAS you may praise, Or Xanthippus' noble ways, Or Leutychidas; but I Rank Aristides high From Athens' holy town. Him best of all I rate, Since now, from Leto's hate, Themistocles is down. Cheat, blackguard, traitor, he From crooked bribery Refused to take his friend Timocreon, or send Him to his island home. He pocketed the pay, And then he sailed away To the devil and to doom. Some wrongly home he brought, Some he murdered, some out-fought; Then gorged with vicious gains At the Isthmus entertains, But his cold meats did not please. They ate, and swore that they Would no attention pay To Themistocles. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE POET SPEAKS by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON SING-SONG; A NURSERY RHYME BOOK: 90 by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI MOUNTAIN PICTURES: 2.
