HEROIC MAIDEN, by ELIZABETH TOUSEY First Line: Heroic maiden of the long ago Last Line: Kneeling, the world salutes you, joan of arc! Subject(s): Joan Of Arc (1412-1431) | ||||||||
Heroic maiden of the long ago, Who listened to the Voices of the Lord, And girded on the heaven-directed sword, Striking for France a strong, resistless blow! Condemned to death, encompassed by the foe, By friends forsaken, by the Church abhorred, Such was earth's recognition and reward, Such was life's ultimate and awful woe. The flame could not consume you! Even yet We feel the presence of your spirit's might! The scarred, stained heart of man cannot forget Those who have raised him nearer to the Light. It is the sound of drum and bugle -- hark! Kneeling, the world salutes you, Joan of Arc! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JEANNE D'ARC by MARIA GOWEN BROOKS JOAN OF ARC IN RHEIMS by FELICIA DOROTHEA HEMANS THE MAID OF ARC; FOR M.
