METIGOSHE, by THONETTE TRANE First Line: Past the garden, cairn and fountains Last Line: Metigoshe of the mountains! Subject(s): Mountains; Hills; Downs (great Britain) | ||||||||
Past the Garden, cairn and fountains, Onward through the Turtle Mountains, Mind your brake and watch that tire, As you travel higher, higher! Leave your burden in the Valley! You will find no Roman galley, But a boat of song and laughter, With the sunbeams trailing after! Now the foothills loom to meet us, Turtle-backs arrayed to greet us . . . Highland, hill-land, sea-green swell, Wooded slope and chaparral. Never mind the motor-lurches! Let us camp among the birches; Let us rest, upon our journey, By this modern Lake Killarney, With the cloudless blue bowl o'er us, And the shimmering lake before us. These are more than storied fountains, Metigoshe of the Mountains! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALIFORNIA SORROW: MOUNTAIN VIEW by MARY KINZIE CONTRA MORTEM: THE MOUNTAIN FASTNESS by HAYDEN CARRUTH GREEN MOUNTAIN IDYL by HAYDEN CARRUTH IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
