BARE EARTH, by LOUISE VANDERPOOL First Line: Forever will the singing rain Last Line: But where I tread, the earth is bare. | ||||||||
Forever will the singing rain Be wedded to the barren tree; Incredible the mellow strain Of deadened wood in symphony. The brimming chalice of the night Caresses every leaf and stone, A foamy wave in sheer delight Is reaching for the crystal zone. Alone am I, the flower and weed That neither promise, nor betray, Are pulsing in a holy creed And gathering fragrance from the day. How delicate the lily grows, Its world is marvelously fair -- How twilight lingers with the rose; But where I tread, the earth is bare. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...YOSHIWARA by LOUISE VANDERPOOL THE CONTRACT by EMILY DICKINSON APOLOGIA PRO POEMATE MEO by WILFRED OWEN HOME THOUGHTS FROM EUROPE by HENRY VAN DYKE THE PASSER-BY by EDMUND CHARLES BLUNDEN NATALIA'S RESURRECTION: 1 by WILFRID SCAWEN BLUNT |
