TWO GOWNS, by MARY L. VIGER First Line: My soul is clothed in black velvet Last Line: Though I pretend I love it. Subject(s): Clothing & Dress | ||||||||
My soul is clothed in black velvet Though I wear pink taffeta. I am gay in my swish. I pretend love it. There is moon-dust on branches When my soul is clothed in velvet, And the gayety of taffeta Is alien to it. I dance in pink taffeta -- I am movement, I am rhythm. Black velvet is low music -- It is slow and peaceful rhythm. I am happier when I wear Simple, plain, black velvet. Pink taffeta is hollow rustle, Though I pretend I love it. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DRESSING MY DAUGHTERS by MARK JARMAN IT'S HARD TO KEEP A CLEAN SHIRT CLEAN by JUNE JORDAN ODE TO A DRESSMAKER'S DUMMY by DONALD JUSTICE THE RED SHIRT by PHILIP LEVINE THE THINGS IN BLACK MEN?ÇÖS CLOSETS by E.
