Grandmother dear, I never knew, She used to paint, oft-times she drew In pencil grey an English street, Quaint cobbled ways where casements meet, A quiet lane, or crumbling wall, Thatch-covered roofs, a belfry tall. With tender care she sketched one day A rose full-blown, exotic, gay; She colored it and never thought The joy she felt, or beauty wrought Might travel far beyond the sea, And ages hence be loved by me! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...KISS GRANDMOTHERS GOOD NIGHT by ANDREW HUDGINS KICKING THE LEAVES by DONALD HALL THE BOOK OF SCAPEGOATS by WAYNE KOESTENBAUM THE GREAT GRANDPARENTS by TED KOOSER THE BATTLE OF LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN [NOVEMBER 24, 1863] by GEORGE HENRY BOKER |
