DRIVEN, by MARY K. WALL First Line: A relentless use of a relentless whip Last Line: We do what the whip shall say. Subject(s): Desire | ||||||||
A relentless use of a relentless whip And we mortals must obey; No thoughts of our own or sense to resent -- We do what the whip shall say. Kindness and pity seem but a phase Of a deranged and childish mind; Heartbreak and anguish considered as naught, We must unswervingly grind. Love is a mockery -- hate but a flare, We have no time to delay; For on and on in perfect rhyme We do what the whip shall say. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AMERICAN WEDDING by ESSEX HEMPHILL HISTORY OF DESIRE by TONY HOAGLAND ARISTOTLE TO PHYLLIS by JOHN HOLLANDER THE REWARD by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON ROBERT BRUCE'S ADDRESS TO HIS ARMY BEFORE BANNOCKBURN by ROBERT BURNS |
