TO A SICK FRIEND, by HANNAH WALLIS First Line: Dear girl, you're growing very thin Last Line: Than longer living here. Subject(s): Sickness; Illness | ||||||||
DEAR girl, you're growing very thin, Your roses too are fled; You say you are low-spirited, And death you seem to dread. Why do you dread this cruel foe? He's only so through sin: Be careful to examine oft The state your soul is in. Is it the terror of the law Does on your spirits prey? I know you strictly was brought up In a religious way. But as you did in Adam fall, So must a sinner be; My dear, you must be born again -- Look in God's Word, and see. If you've experienced such a change, You'll love the Saviour dear; Then happier you will be in death, Than longer living here. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A SICK CHILD by RANDALL JARRELL AFTERNOON AT MACDOWELL by JANE KENYON HAVING IT OUT WITH MELANCHOLY by JANE KENYON SONNET: 9.
