TAKIN' A CHANCE, by WAYNE B. WALTERS First Line: The boys were all excited Last Line: In a game they call polo. Subject(s): Boys; Games; Victory; Recreation; Pastimes; Amusements | ||||||||
The boys were all excited When they were told to go, The hosses were a rarin' And the music playin' low. The folks back home a hopin' The boys would surely win, For they all had the courage And were the bravest of men. For the foe was advancin', Now the boys must do their best, And victory was dancin' In the heads that needed rest. Though the foe had shot and missed While the boys all looked with care, Victory was approaching If each man his part would share. Alas, one falls from off his horse, As a warrior brave and true, And dragged for a long distance Then they run to his rescue. His foot released from stirrup, He's seen better days than now, With great haste they wash his face, And plant a kiss upon his brow. Now this is not a battle Of hate and strife and woe, It is just a friendly skirmish In a game they call polo. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BLOODY SIRE by ROBINSON JEFFERS GAME AFTER SUPPER by MARGARET ATWOOD DANGEROUS GAMES by CAROLYN KIZER THE GOOD AUTHOR by CAROLYN KIZER BATTLEDORE AND SHUTTLECOCK by AMY LOWELL THE LOST CHILDREN by GREGORY ORR SNAKE EYES by MINNIE BRUCE PRATT THE ACE OF THE RACE by WAYNE B.
