ALWAYS WITH SONG, by MARY B. WARD First Line: How sweet to softly-cushioned baby ears Last Line: Are made endurable always with song. Subject(s): Singing & Singers | ||||||||
How sweet to softly-cushioned baby ears Are lullabies, slow-winged and lingering As unstirred clouds that float through lazy Spring. A few years pass and then youth perseveres Through strident voice to utter songs he hears; Then time brings love with pulses quickening To strains caressing, tender, whispering; Then age ... and songs to comfort waiting years. Always man lives with song, with rhythms low And tender made for love and lovers' ways; Or fast and stirring notes to make hearts strong, Or music made for dusk when deep clouds blow; -- Man's pulses pound to rhythm; darkest days Are made endurable always with song. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY SOUTHERN AGRARIAN POET by MARY B.
