TRANSMUTATION, by OLIVE WALDRON WARNER First Line: Marriage ties are bound by rings Last Line: Marriage ties but drag at heel. Subject(s): Marriage; Weddings; Husbands; Wives | ||||||||
Marriage ties are bound by rings -- Chafing metal cuts and stings. Lovers' ties are gossamer things: Moonlight -- starlight -- scent that clings. Wives become but waiting slaves; Roaming husbands soon are knaves. Sweetheart, lover ever craves; Naught, for her, but what he braves. Commands are lovers' proud delight; While wives but "nag" a man at night. Sweethearts' tears put men in plight But wives' can only cause their flight. Lovers' vows hot kisses seal; Marriage vows bring woe, sans weal. Lovers' ties they never feel; Marriage ties but drag at heel. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A BLESSING FOR A WEDDING by JANE HIRSHFIELD A SUITE FOR MARRIAGE by DAVID IGNATOW ADVICE TO HER SON ON MARRIAGE by MARY BARBER THE RABBI'S SON-IN-LAW by SABINE BARING-GOULD KISSING AGAIN by DORIANNE LAUX A TIME PAST by DENISE LEVERTOV BIRTH OF JUNE by OLIVE WALDRON WARNER |
