BEACON LIGHTS, by NELLIE E. WARREN First Line: An airport and a beacon-light shining Last Line: "shall be given to wear the crown." Subject(s): Churches; Religion; Cathedrals; Theology | ||||||||
An airport and a beacon-light shining As shadows loomed over the lea -- A church spire gleamed in the distance, And this vision came to me. Every church is a beacon, Each member a shining light That shows the whole wide world That religion stands for right. Does your light shine brightly That those around may know That your faith and hope ring true, As along your path you go? Or, does your light shine dimly As the mists of earth arise? Fear, greed, malice and envy Forfeit many a heavenly prize. Are you sowing seeds of kindness For your harvest in future years, Or, will discontent and hatred Be garnered with their fears? God made man in his image, He expresses Himself through man. He created us all for His glory, Are we doing the best we can? If not, why not? We are given sense and reason To put all evil down, And, "to him that overcometh Shall be given to wear the crown." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MYSTIC BOUNCE by TERRANCE HAYES MATHEMATICS CONSIDERED AS A VICE by ANTHONY HECHT UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN SHINE, PERISHING REPUBLIC by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF THE PLAGUE by WELDON KEES |
