TREE PRAYER, by
First Line: Oh god, that man may come to know
Last Line: Their vigil till the last long sleep.
Subject(s): Prayer; Trees

Oh God, that man may come to know
The beauty of the trees that grow
With outstretched arms against the sky,
Their supplication soaring high.

Bound by the blasts of ice and snow
They wait unchanged, till winters go,
And laughing winds -- from South set free --
Summon the sap to liberty.

Wooed by the warmth of vivid day,
They wake at spring in green array,
Through sunset glow, as dusk draws night,
A silhouette -- a prayer -- a sigh.

Oh God, that man may come to know
The beauty of the trees that grow,
Be kind to them, and let them keep
Their vigil till the last long sleep.
