I know that life could be like poetry;
Were you to share it with me and inspire
Warm ecstasy, swift beauty and desire,
How great the glory in each passing day!
And though our joy be fashioned of stern things,
Snatched opportunities and fleeting dreams,
Yet so our unity should be complete,
Miraculous and infinite our lot,
For understanding must give strength in strife,
Ah, God, if dear Reality should breathe
Her promise on this soul of mine that longs
To give, and never to withhold the love
That springs in bright confusion and sublime
To lose itself in your heart for all time!
