SELF-INQUIRY, by ISAAC WATTS Poet's Biography First Line: Let not soft slumber close my eyes Last Line: That leads to virtue and to god. Subject(s): Religion; Theology | ||||||||
LET not soft slumber close my eyes, Before I've recollected thrice The train of action through the day! Where have my feet chose out their way? What have I learnt, where'er I've been, From all I have heard, from all I've seen? What know I more that's worth the knowing? What have I done that's worth the doing? What have l sought that I shoul shun? What duty have I left undone? Or into what new follies run? These self-inquiries are the road That leads to virtue and to God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MYSTIC BOUNCE by TERRANCE HAYES MATHEMATICS CONSIDERED AS A VICE by ANTHONY HECHT UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN SHINE, PERISHING REPUBLIC by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF THE PLAGUE by WELDON KEES A LITHUANIAN ELEGY by ROBERT KELLY |
