OF GOD AND MAN, by F. G. WEIBAULT First Line: When god made man, it was his one mistake Last Line: Relieved to find man's vanished from his sight. Subject(s): Creation | ||||||||
When God made man, It was His one mistake And imperfection in His godliness. He must have smiled when He baked the clay and spake The word that made man's life a sorry mess: And maybe felt a wild hilarity When clownish man upon his knees partook Of prayer; damned wife with some asperity; Or boasted of having invented the shepherds' crook. "He isn't much on beauty," God said perhaps, "But by my blessed godhead, the creature's funny." God fell asleep, and let some time elapse (His snores becoming the Church's patrimony) Before He wakens from celestial night Relieved to find man's vanished from His sight. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE EARTH IS BUILDED by MARION LOUISE BLISS THE GODDESS WHO CREATED THIS PASSING WORLD by ALICE NOTLEY IF I HAD ONE THING TO SAY by MARVIN BELL SEVENS (VERSION 3): IN THE CLOSED IRIS OF CREATION by MARVIN BELL BROTHERS: 1.
