First Line: They tell me that it could be worse
Last Line: So must my poetry?

They tell me that it could be worse;
The thought is good enough,
But that the meter of my verse
Is just a little rough.

That it could stand some smoothing out,
A minimum of care
Would show the world without a doubt
That I have something there.

Do they not know that this, my verse,
Is only part of me?
And if my heart beats in discord,
So must my poetry?
