VALE, by MARGUERITE WILKINSON Poet's Biography First Line: Her gaunt sierras edged with fire or snow Last Line: Of waves upon her coast. Subject(s): California | ||||||||
Her gaunt sierras edged with fire or snow, Cutting the burnished sky, her steep on steep Of tawny-breasted hills, her golden fields, I might not hope to keep. And I may never go again to find The topaz glory of her mellow days, The blessed fragrance of her sapphire nights, And softly sing their praise. But I shall keep her beauty to the end, For beauty changes those who love it most, And through my heart the echoing rhythms beat Of waves upon her coast. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE LOVING SHEPHERDESS by ROBINSON JEFFERS WEST COAST SOUNDS ?اض 1956 by BOB KAUFMAN CALIFORNIA SORROW: CLAREMONT RAGA by MARY KINZIE IN CALIFORNIA: MORNING, EVENING, LATE JANUARY by DENISE LEVERTOV KEATS IN CALIFORNIA by PHILIP LEVINE CALIFORNIA; FOR ADRIENNE RICH by HAYDEN CARRUTH DRY GRASS & OLD COLOR OF THE FENCE & SMOOTH HILLS by LINDA GREGG EVERYTHING'S A FAKE by FANNY HOWE A SONG OF TWO WANDERERS by MARGUERITE WILKINSON |
