SIC TRANSIT, by KATHARINE WILLIS First Line: As fall the sere leaves from the tree Last Line: Seeds will find roots and flowers grow! Subject(s): Autumn; Dreams; Flowers; Seasons; Trees; Fall; Nightmares | ||||||||
As fall the sere leaves from the tree In this season of transition, Lashed by an unrelenting fate To their destined end; with the weight Of passioned months of fruition Bearing them to earth, again to be From dreaming and from burning free, So, now, with summer's kiss grown cold In my heart; in this season, I, too, take winter's deathlike mask And shed sere dreams for the stern task. Yet I know -- past all reason -- Where dreams lie dead beneath the snow, Seeds will find roots and flowers grow! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN VARIATIONS: 18 by CONRAD AIKEN LIVE IT THROUGH by DAVID IGNATOW A DREAM OF GAMES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL APOLOGY FOR BAD DREAMS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GIVE YOUR WISH LIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS SNOW IN THE SUBURBS by THOMAS HARDY |
