THE FLOOD, by FRANK WILMOT Poet's Biography First Line: There have been gorgeous moments, hours and days Last Line: Drowned under the slow surge of commonplace. Alternate Author Name(s): Maurice, Furnley Subject(s): Memory | ||||||||
THERE have been gorgeous moments, hours and days, Dogs by creek waters romping, trees and a rose; Music in light where the delphinium grows And bees make audible the summer haze. Wanton adventurings in unknown ways Of hill and sea, passions of fresh repose 'Mid raptures where devouring eyes ne'er close And no lips move except to laugh or praise. Vivid enough these were but all are passed Into a cloud of recollected things; Often again will wonder come and grace; With corded magic 'neath their loosened wings Strange outland ships will hail -- to be at last Drowned under the slow surge of commonplace. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MEMORY AS A HEARING AID by TONY HOAGLAND THE SAME QUESTION by JOHN HOLLANDER FORGET HOW TO REMEMBER HOW TO FORGET by JOHN HOLLANDER ON THAT SIDE by LAWRENCE JOSEPH MEMORY OF A PORCH by DONALD JUSTICE BEYOND THE HUNTING WOODS by DONALD JUSTICE |
