THERE IS A SONG, by JOYCE WISDOM First Line: There is a song within my heart that hides Last Line: And none, save I alone, may hear my song. Subject(s): Singing & Singers | ||||||||
There is a song within my heart that hides In deep recesses when I long to sing; Its music tells of birds, and trees, and flowers, And slanting sunlight, and the skies of spring. It wells up soundless, save to my own ear; It fills me with a tender, poignant pain -- A glory, bounded by a narrow self -- Elusive and unshared, I try in vain To free it, let it soar into the air, A melody exultant, sweet and strong. Elusive still -- I cannot give it voice, And none, save I alone, may hear my Song. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY THE POT OF BASIL (BOCCACCIO) by JOYCE WISDOM |
