HOME, by ALPHA SNYDER WODDELL Recitation by Author First Line: Death cried, Last Line: A boatman dipped to row. | |||
Death cried, "Ho!" at the dim crossroad, Holding out a grisly arm. The boy, chilled by his frosty breath, Cried, "Back, stay back!" in alarm. Riding with Death in a car headed west, Going back to his home, Laughing, Death said, "My boy, it's best, And with me you're going home." With his ghastly hand, he then took command And turned the wheel just so; One moment -- no more -- by the River's bank A boatman dipped to row. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PORTRAIT OF A BABY by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET HOME by LEONIDAS OF ALEXANDRIA TO THE BELOVED by ALICE MEYNELL HARVEST by GERTRUDE RYDER BENNETT THE CHRISTENING OF THE STADIUM by HARRY RANDOLPH BLYTHE THE PLACE OF LOVE by S.
