ATTAR OF ROSES, by CHARLES WHITWORTH WYNNE First Line: Like the petals of the rose Last Line: Till thy lips again I find. Alternate Author Name(s): Cayzer, Charles Subject(s): Flowers; Love; Roses | ||||||||
LIKE the petals of the Rose When the dews their scent disclose, Soft as velvet tho' they be, Fragrant of the Dawn and thee, Yet thy lips are sweeter far Than all garden Roses are. Once I thought my life supreme, Bedded in a Rose's dream, Scent of Attar on my lips, Nectar that the brown bee sips, Yet I never knew before What sweet scents thy lips could store! This, above that carmine wave, Was the soft response they gave Fading fast before my touch, Never yielding overmuch! Now I have no peace of mind Till thy lips again I find. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE WHISPER OF THE ROSE by EDMUND JOHN ARMSTRONG THE WISDOM OF THE ROSE by ELSA BARKER LOVE PLANTED A ROSE by KATHARINE LEE BATES ROSES; A VILANELLE by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON THE PAINTER ON SILK by AMY LOWELL VARIATIONS: 17 by CONRAD AIKEN WORDS IN A CERTAIN APPROPRIATE MODE by HAYDEN CARRUTH A DULL DAY IN SEPTEMBER by CHARLES WHITWORTH WYNNE |
