MY GARDEN, by MARY RAMTHUN YOUNG First Line: Once it was but barren land Last Line: All my garden whispers love. Subject(s): Gardens & Gardening | ||||||||
Once it was but barren land, Just a bit of clay and sand; So with spade we planted trees, Flowering shrubs for birds and bees, Planted grass and bulbs and seeds, Spaded, hoed, and pulled out weeds; And where once 'twas brown and bare We now have a garden there. Larkspur, blue beside the wall, Hollyhocks so straight and tall, Columbine and poppies bright Glow beside the daisies white; Here and there the bluebells nod, And above, the goldenrod; All my garden blooms so fair Where 'twas once so brown and bare. O'er a trellis hangs a vine, From a pool the lilies shine, In the trees the robins sing Songs and melodies of spring; Everywhere is music gay Chasing every cloud away; Blue and clear the sky above, All my garden whispers love. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...NOVEMBER GARDEN: AN ELEGY by ANDREW HUDGINS AN ENGLISH GARDEN IN AUSTRIA (SEEN AFTER DER ROSENKAVALIER) by RANDALL JARRELL ACROSS THE BROWN RIVER by GALWAY KINNELL A DESERTED GARDEN by GEORGE LAWRENCE ANDREWS NOT THE SWEET CICELY OF GERARDES HERBALL by MARGARET AVISON AN OLD GARDEN by HERBERT BASHFORD BLACK BUTTE by PAUL SOUTHWORTH BLISS SONNETS FROM THE PORTUGUESE: 12 by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING |
