CONVERSATIONAL, by ANONYMOUS First Line: How's your father?' came the whisper Last Line: "came the climax, 'how's your parents?'" Subject(s): Conversation | ||||||||
"How's your father?" came the whisper, Bashful Ned the silence breaking; "Oh, he's nicely," Annie murmured, Smilingly the question taking. Conversation flagged a moment, Hopeless, Ned essayed another: "Annie, I -- I," then a coughing, And the question, "How's your mother?" "Mother? Oh, she's doing finely!" Fleeting fast was all forbearance, When in low, despairing accents, Came the climax, "How's your parents?" | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TODAY'S NOT OPPOSITE DAY by CHARLES BERNSTEIN WORDS THE DREAMER SPOKE TO MY FATHER IN MAINE by ROBERT BLY A CONVERSATION WITH MONICA WILSON by AIME CESAIRE TWO WOMEN ON THE POTOMAC HIGHWAY by NORMAN DUBIE IT JUST SO HAPPENS by JAMES GALVIN DRIFTERS: BELLA COOLA TO WILLIAMS LAKE by KAREN SWENSON TIS A LITTLE JOURNEY by ANONYMOUS |
