FAIR PLAY FOR TICHBORNE AND KENEALY, by ANONYMOUS First Line: Give me the man of honest heart Last Line: Of good old english metal Subject(s): Crimes & Criminals;honesty;law & Lawyers | |||
Give me the man of honest heart, I like no two-faced dodger, But one who nobly speaks his part, Like Kenealy did for Roger; One honest lawyer's found at last Who'll ne'er desert his client, He knows right well the cause is just, He stands up like a giant. * * * Now when the big-wigs found that he To them would not be suing, They knocked their wigs together, boys, And swore they'd be his ruin; We dare not do it publicly For fear 'twould cause a riot, So we'll get the Gray's Inn Benchers To do it on the quiet. Sir Roger bears up like a man, His spirit never lacking, When he gets out there is no doubt He'll give his foes a whacking; His mother worried to her grave, Her son they'd like to settle, But Roger shows the world he's made Of good old English metal. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JAKE MANN by EDGAR LEE MASTERS SIX POETS IN SEATCH OF A LAWYER by DONALD HALL ANY AND ALL by LAWRENCE JOSEPH DOMESDAY BOOK: JANE FISHER by EDGAR LEE MASTERS DOMESDAY BOOK: THE GOVERNOR by EDGAR LEE MASTERS THE LAWYERS KNOW TOO MUCH by CARL SANDBURG TIS A LITTLE JOURNEY by ANONYMOUS |
