DREAM, by JACK GREENBERG First Line: I know that the dream is not meant to stay Last Line: That nurses the will and banishes doubt. Subject(s): Dreams; Nightmares | ||||||||
I know that the dream is not meant to stay, That garments of time are fabric of schemes, That life is a speck between two extremes: A flash of delight, a thrust of dismay; That I must travel the old beaten way And take my portion of what only seems Yet I am happy to garner my dreams And know they are seldom false or betray. For dreams are the seeds for dreamers to sow To cover with days and with nights as they fade; When wet by tears of experience they sprout, And touched by rays of endeavor they grow, And from their ripe fruits a nourishment made That nurses the will and banishes doubt. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN VARIATIONS: 18 by CONRAD AIKEN LIVE IT THROUGH by DAVID IGNATOW A DREAM OF GAMES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL APOLOGY FOR BAD DREAMS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GIVE YOUR WISH LIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS |
