WHAT OUR EYES BEHOLD, by LORNA TALLENT KIDWELL First Line: Why, son, it's lovely here,' she said Last Line: And the cracks in the kitchen floor. Subject(s): Vision | ||||||||
"Why, son, it's lovely here," she said; Her dim, blue eyes were filled with pride, But she was seeing the morning glories Colorfully splashed on the near hillside. And she was seeing the cherry tree That stood beside her kitchen door, Its clusters of dark-red cherries More beautiful than ever before. And she was seeing the lovely view From her bedroom window late at night When the moon rose over the mountain tops And filled the heavens with golden light. "It's lovely here," she said again, Her glance beyond the sagging door; But he saw only the patched old roof And the cracks in the kitchen floor. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE MERCY SEAT by NORMAN DUBIE TOO BRIGHT TO SEE by LINDA GREGG NORMAL LIGHT by ALICIA SUSKIN OSTRIKER LANDSCAPES (FOR CLEMENT R.
